In Buddhist Meditation have just observe it only that your breath 's in or out at that time, don't command it. A peaceful mind is free from worries and mental discomfort. To Meditate:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;First you must set the stage for meditation by stopping distractions and making your mind clearer. This can be done through simple breathing meditation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1. Choose a quiet place and sit comfortably. Sitting may be in the traditional cross legged position, a chair, or any comfortable position that allows you back to be straight to prevent sluggishness.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2. Partially close your eyes and begin to focus on the natural rhythm of your breath. Be aware of the breath enters and exits your nostrils.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;3. If you mind seems busy at first that is normal. You may be tempted to follow different thoughts as they arise. Try to resist these and remain focused on your breath.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Don't give up. Practicing patiently will gradually teach your mind to focus and the stray thoughts will subside. You will soon experience inner peace and relaxation. Stay in this state of mental calm for a while.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Breathing meditation is simply the first stage in deeper forms of meditation, but it is quite affective. It is important to learn to control your mind before advancing.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;• Stress and tension normally come from an unruly or restless mind. Once you can control the your thoughts and create stillness of your mind you will experience happiness and inner peace. This form of contentment helps to cope with everyday stressors such as kids, deadlines, bills, etc. Difficult situations will still arise, but you will be able to handle them with ease. To develop a more relaxed and positive view towards life.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;5. To develop a peaceful and more clearly functioning mind. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;6. For greater ability to penetrate into the core of problems and find inspirational solutions. This has been found especially useful by scientists and businessmen.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;7. To tune into a creative inspirations for artistic expression.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;8. For freeing oneself from addictions such as cigarettes, alcohol, narcotics and tranquilizers.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;9. For the ecstasy of union with the Universal Spirit, which is the essential reality of the universe. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Scientific Research on the Effects of Meditation on the Body and Personality&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Numerous scientific experiments on people who meditate and similar control groups who do not meditate, have given repeatable results concerning the effects of meditation on a person's body and personality. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Most of the following studies have been made on persons practicing Transcendental Meditation. (However, my personal opinion after 34 years of practicing various forms including T.M., is that most forms of meditation will give the same results)&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;1. DEEP PHYSIOLOGICAL REST is shown by a distinct drop in the metabolism rate, as measured by the oxygen consumption by an individual in meditation, waking activity, sleep and hypnosis. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;2. Another indication of the deep rest is that the number of breaths needed to be taken each minute during meditation drops significantly.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;3. Good news for those with heart problems is that meditation is also extremely restful and rejuvenating for the heart.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;4. Another indication of the deep rest produced by meditation is the significant drop in the blood lactate level. The lower the lactate level the more rested and rejuvenated is the muscle tissue. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;5. Tests show meditation's deep calming effect through the decrease in skin conductivity.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;6. The body becomes more relaxed and more efficient. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;10. Persons who meditate experience much more stable health. They have less illnesses in general in their lives.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;LONG TERM PSYCHOLOGICAL CHANGES&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;11. Studies have also shown that those who meditate regularly react more quickly and more effectively to a stressful event.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;12. Meditation also increases one's perceptual ability and motor performance.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;13. Studies on high school students showed that those who meditated had a higher «intelligence growth rate» than those who did not.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;14. Memory recall is also enhanced by meditation.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;15. Many psychological studies have been made in work environments concerning meditators and control groups of non-meditators. Meditators had above average increases in a. JOB SATISFACTION b.  PRODUCTIVITY,  c. Improvement in their relationships with coworkers  d. Improvement in their relationship with their supervisors.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;16. A large number of psychological tests have been done on those who have been meditating for various periods of time. A test made on those who had been meditating for only two months in comparison to non-meditators produced the following results: a. Meditators had greater inner-directedness than non meditators. b. They measured higher self acceptance. c. Greater spontaneity and creativity. d. Greater self-esteem. e. An increase in the capacity for intimate contact with loved ones. f. Less anxiety .&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;17. Prisoners who stared meditation showed: a. A marked decrease in mental illness.  b. Their behavior became more socially acceptable. c. Less anxiety and less aggressiveness. d. Became inclined to more positive activities such as sports, clubs and educational activities. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;OTHER LONG TERM PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES   18. After 4 to 6 weeks of meditation, meditators with hypertension have found their blood pressure fall.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;19. A group of meditators who had been suffering from bronchial asthma found significant relief.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;20. Meditators checked for their consumption of cigarettes after starting to meditate showed marked decrease.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;21. Meditation significantly reduces ones need for or dependency on tranquilizers. alcohol and or drugs.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;22. Other tests made on meditators show that they need much less sleep to recover from sleep deprivation.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;23. Meditators show significant decrease in the illness after starting meditation.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;24. Meditators showed greatly increased ability to recover from psychosomatic illnesses.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;25. Insomniacs who start meditation require much less time to fall asleep.  &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;26. A study on athletes showed that, after starting to meditate, there was an improvement in their performance on various athletic events as well as their intelligence as measured by intelligence tests. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;27. In one other study it was found that meditation has the tendency to normalize a person's weight. That is if he is &lt;a id="KonaLink3" target="_new" class="kLink" style="text-decoration: underline ! important; position: static;" href="http://www.articlesbase.com/motivational-articles/benefits-of-meditation-30228.html#"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(0, 153, 0) ! important; font-family: Verdana,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: 400; font-size: 13.3333px; position: static;color:#009900;" &gt;&lt;span class="kLink" style="color: rgb(0, 153, 0) ! important; font-family: Verdana,Arial,sans-serif; font-weight: 400; font-size: 13.3333px; position: static;"&gt;overweight&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;, he tends to loose, and if he is underweight, he tends to gain. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;SOME CONCLUSIONS  CONCERNING THESE RESEARCH STUDIES&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The conclusion is obvious. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Meditation increases whatever is good and life supporting in a person. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;It strengthens our immune system, harmonizes our endocrine system and relaxes our nervous system. It creates health and vitality. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;On a mental level it develops inner peace, clarity, self-confidence, self-acceptance, creativity, productivity and eventually greater self-actualization.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;It makes our work environment more satisfactory, improves our relationships with coworkers, supervisors and subordinates. It makes us more creative, more responsible and more productive. &lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;On a spiritual level it puts us in contact with our inner voice, with our inner strength, with our inner spiritual wisdom and love.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;Think now, what would happen if many people in our society meditated? Still others, with an active approach to life, may like the meditation techniques involving movement, while those with a strong mind would enjoy the approach of visualization and concentration. Overall, there are several broad categories under which we can capture most of these various meditation practices and in Part 1 I will explore Insight Meditation Techniques and Sound (Mantra) and Intention Meditation Techniques.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1. Insight Meditation Techniques: These are the meditations of choice for the Gyan Yogis or those drawn to the intellectual path. It incorporates the advanced meditation techniques from the Zen school of Buddhism, the Advaita Vedanta school of Hinduism, certain schools of Western Religions among others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A. WHO AM I Meditation Technique: This techniques comes from the school of Advaita Vedanta (Non-Dualism / End of Knowledge). The meditation was popularized by Shri Ramana Maharishi and is based on negation of the false self in order to realize one's True Nature. Here is an example of my experience with WHO AM I Meditation Practice.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;B. Koan Meditation Technique: These meditations come from the Zen school of Buddhism and are designed to break down the ordinary pattern of conceptual, dualistic thinking. By breaking down the interference created by the thinking mechanism the practitioner is brought to confront the non-dual reality of "what is" directly and thus Awaken.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;C. Contemplation Meditation Technique: These meditations utilize introspection, self-study, reflection, self-dialogue and contemplation to cut through the layers of false conditioning and false understanding that deludes the mind. These meditations have their roots in many Western Religions and are also a part of Eastern philosophies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;D. Silent Mind Meditation Technique: This meditation technique is my contribution to this category and it involves directly perceiving the fact of what is by acute observation of the thinking process. This is the flavor that I enjoy best and I have explained it in detail in the The Silent Mind Meditations, which are part of the Silent Mind Meditation Program. These meditations are an extension of the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Mantra Japa Meditation Technique: This meditation method uses the repetition of a mantra (a particular sound, word or phrase) verbally or mentally to create the necessary conditions for purification, refinement or expansion to take place. Mantras are essentially keys which allow one to tune into the individual energy field or tune into the Universal Energy field to produce certain desired results. Here is an example of using OM Mantra to activate the Third Eye Chakra.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;B. Rhythm Meditation Technique: This form of meditation uses the combination of rhythm, chanting, music and breath to calibrate and perfect the system. The excellent Three Step Rhythmic Breathing (3srb) meditation technique of Sage Pantanjali and many Kundalini Yoga meditations fall under this category, among others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;C. Meditation via Song: Most of the meditations from the path of Devotion (Bhakti Yoga) and Love, designed to dissolve the ego belong in this category. This is a path most dear to those who are emotional in nature and feel a deep love for the divine. Christianity, Gospel, Sufi Meditations, Hare Krishna Meditations, Kirtans and Bhajans are some examples of techniques in this category.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;D. Meditation via Prayer &amp;amp; Intention: All religions have meditations involving prayer and worship. The meditations that also use the power of intention to manifest desires fall under this category.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So you can see from above, these is a rich diversity to the Art of Meditation and certainly something for everybody. The nirvana is a state where one is liberated from all bindings and does not have to go through the cycle of birth and death. Meditation is a set of techniques through which a Buddhist can realize the state of nirvana.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But before that, meditation is a way to cultivate the mind. Buddhism teaches meditation as a way to reach the state of mindfulness. Mindfulness is that state of consciousness where the practitioner is fully aware of his states of mind. He is aware of each thought and each reaction passing through his mind. He knows himself much more than an ordinary person.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Buddha's teachings centre on the concept of 'Four Noble Truths'. First, there is suffering or dissatisfaction in our world. Second, the suffering is due to our desires and ignorance. The suffering is ultimately due to the state of our mind. We suffer because we do not truly understand ourselves. So consequently, if we understand ourselves and the working of our mind we can end this suffering. Third, this suffering can be put to an end. Better understanding of self leads to the deliverance from suffering. Suffering is actually the inseparable part of this existence. One can reach the state of nirvana, where one goes beyond the cyclic nature of existence - the cycle of birth and death. This is the hope that Buddha held forth to the practitioners of the faith. And finally, the way to accomplish this is The Eightfold Path.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The eightfold path is constituted by right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right understanding, right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The last three, in fact, refer to the path of meditation. Buddhism, perhaps, is the only system which provides the practical means to achieve everything that is promised by it. Buddha advised concentrating on some thing to reach the meditative state. In meditation, the practitioner is mostly asked to direct her attention towards breathing. One consciously observes the breath going in and the breath going out. Not only this, one observes each and every sensation, thought and feeling in one's mind. One thus becomes keenly aware of the workings of the mind. This helps practitioner reach the state of mindfulness.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Broadly, the Buddhist meditation is divided into two categories - the Samatha (calm) and the Vipassana (mindfulness). The Samatha, or Calm, meditation, is done by concentrating the mind to such a degree that mind and body both attain a high level of calmness. There are three benefits of practicing this form of meditation - peace and happiness, a favorable rebirth and the freedom from mental disturbances that are the source of unhappiness. Samatha helps us attain a state of tranquility and calmness with oneself that best depicted by the images of Buddha himself. With Samatha we do not attain nirvana, but get ready to achieve it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Vipassana is the technique of observing oneself. We become aware of our reactions to the sensations of pain and pleasure. But instead of reacting with like or dislike, we become aware of these disturbances of the mind. This method makes us reach those obscure parts of our consciousness where body and thought, chemicals and feelings, meet each other. Ultimately, we become aware of the processes through which our deepest habits are formed. This awareness liberates us from these habits and we become masters of our mind. It makes us realize the source of all thoughts and feelings and makes one 'aware' in the true sense of the word.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Vipassana helps one attain the state of mindfulness - the state where we see things as they really are. Vipassana is the realization, by direct insight, of the presence of three characteristics of being - impermanence, suffering and non-self, in everything - including our bodily and mental processes. Find Peace. To find peace within through meditation requires that you begin with a peaceful, quiet place in which to enjoy the process. You want somewhere you can call your own for at least the next 15 to 20 minutes. Locate a private place away from as much noise as possible.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If you can hear neighborhood kids playing... dogs barking... and traffic zooming by.... you need to get away from that as much as possible. The more peaceful, calm and serene your environment, the easier it is to relax on a deeper level and get the full benefit of your meditation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Your meditative environment may be indoors or outdoors. Wherever it is, you want to get away from the hustle and bustle, environmental noise, and the nonstop chatter that's going on externally and even internally within your own mind.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2. Get Comfortable. Now that you found a location, the next step of your 'meditation how to' is to get comfortable there. By this I mean that you should be wearing loose fitting clothing, something that you're totally at ease in.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So if you're wearing a shirt and tie with jacket for example, you want to remove the jacket and take off the tie and possibly loosen your shirt and roll up the sleeves. Maximum comfort is important here because anything less will distract you at some point and draw your focus away from the meditation itself.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In addition to wearing comfortable clothing, find a reasonably comfortable chair. Now keep in mind that you only need 15 to 20 minutes for a highly-effective meditation, although you can gain benefit from shorter or longer sessions too. But for those 15 to 20 minutes, you want to experience as much comfort and joy as possible.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;3. Assume The Position. Now it's time to move this 'meditation how to' into action. Take a seat in your chair, keeping your back straight and upright. Strive to reach a new level where you are at complete peace where you feel pure bliss. Your mission through meditation is to experience complete freedom. Mentally, physically and spiritually -- you want to be free of any thoughts or resistance of any kind.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As you notice thoughts entering your consciousness when your mind wanders, gently release each thought as it comes. Don't dwell on it or think about it even for a moment. Doing so energizes the thought and takes you away from your bliss. Simply let it go. And don't think about it anymore. While meditating, you don't have to be striving to accomplish something or get something done. In fact it’s free. The only expense you’ll have is a meditation mat, which isn’t especially necessary-at least from my experience. Meditation has been around for 5,000 years, and was originally a spiritual component of yoga. Through the years non-yogis adopted it, intuitively sensing and connecting the practice with greater peace of mind. Personally, I can’t say enough good things about meditation. Its use has rewarded me with less worry and much more energy. But I’ve never been one for anecdotal evidence. Let’s get to the science…&lt;a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.moonsinger.com/MeditationLotus.jpg"&gt;&lt;img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px;" src="http://www.moonsinger.com/MeditationLotus.jpg" alt="" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Transcendental Meditation&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Recently, there’s an incredible amount of science tied into the benefits of meditation. The studies are endless and cover a variety of meditative practices. On &lt;b&gt;Transcendental Meditation&lt;/b&gt; alone (mantra repetition) there are over 500 studies. Some are more noteworthy that others. A study in the &lt;i&gt;Japanese Journal of Public Health&lt;/i&gt; found that through Transcendental Meditation, industrial workers sleep improved and their smoking decreased. Another study conducted at the &lt;i&gt;MERU Research Institute&lt;/i&gt;, in Buckinghamshire, England found that the length of time practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program correlated with younger biological age and younger functional age.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Mindfulness Meditation&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Mindfulness meditation&lt;/b&gt;, which asks us to focus on our breath to facilitate awareness of the present moment, is another widely studied meditation technique. After studying the effects of 8-weeks of mindfulness meditation on participants, a 2003 report in the &lt;i&gt;Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine &lt;/i&gt;concluded: “A short program in mindfulness meditation produces demonstrable effects on brain and immune function.” Impressive, but fairly vague. To get a more committed response to the benefits of meditation we have to turn to Taiwan. In 2002 their journal &lt;i&gt;Chang Gung Medicine&lt;/i&gt; reported that “training in MM may be a medically superior and cost-effective alternative to pain medication for the control of headaches with no underlying organic causes in highly motivated patients.”&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Stress Reduction and Meditation&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What causes these positive physical changes? To answer this, other research has looked at the specifics of what happens in the body during meditation. . Researchers at the &lt;i&gt;Maharishi School of Management&lt;/i&gt; in Fairfield, Iowa, found that meditation has an enormous impact on stress reduction. When they examined a group who had meditated for four months they saw that they produced less of the stress hormone cortisol. They were therefore better able to adapt to stress in their lives, no matter what their circumstances were.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Having balanced cortisol levels is essential to mental and emotional health. Notice I say balanced rather than none. We don’t want to completely eliminate cortisol. If we did we’d be dead. Even low cortisol levels can be dangerous. Not enough cortisol is the identifying trait of Addison’s disease. John F. Kennedy had this condition, which he denied passionately during his presidency. Yet during his term he regulated his levels through hydrocortisone (synthetic cortisol). The reverse of JFK’s condition is called Cushings Syndrome.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The five most common and noticeable changes of this condition include; red face and puffy cheeks; excess fat surrounding the collar bones, muscle weakness, and hypertension. But we don’t have to have Cushing’s Syndrome to be damaged by extra cortisol. The changes we experience may be subtle variations of these. Plus, the changes caused by excess cortisol are age dependent. Young people may stop growing and teenagers can develop acne. The mature among us aren’t safe either. Since excess cortisol damages bone-tissue those over age 60 may develop fractures related to osteoporosis. So it’s evident that if we can regulate cortisol, especially through a natural process, we owe it to ourselves to try.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Other Benefits of Meditation&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Regina Drueding, MD, is a meditation instructor at Life Circles in Utah, USA. She quotes the benefits of meditation as follows: “more energy, improved quality of sleep, decreased anxiety, lessened chronological aging, improved concentration, improved visual acuity, increased alertness and heightened immunity.” She writes: “Besides the benefits mentioned earlier, meditation results in improvement of hypertension, sleep disorders, headaches, heartrhythm disturbances, chronic pain – pain due to cancer, infertility and irritable bowel syndrome. Following meditation, mental and physical refreshment result – and benefits are cumulative with regular practice.”&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;How to Meditate&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Meditation is both simple and complex. It’s like defining the color orange: When you see it you know it. Similarly, the experience of meditation is best, well…experienced. In an article in New View magazine, Shippensburg University’s Dr. C. George Boeree describes the basics of &lt;b&gt;Buddhist meditation&lt;/b&gt;. In summary, the beginner’s technique is as follows:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;1. Sit or kneel comfortably.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;2. The hands are loose and open with the palms up, one atop the other and thumbs lightly touching.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;3. Head is upright. Eyes may be closed or open. If open they should focus on your hands or a spot nearby.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;4. Beginning meditators should count upwards to ten on each exhale. Breathe in a relaxed and natural way. Then begin again at one and repeat. Continue to breathe naturally.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;5. Continue for 15 minutes.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In my personal experience, I don’t find that the specific length of time is as important as repetition and persistence. To paraphrase, 10 minutes daily beats 15 minutes once a week. This brings me to another point: We all have different personalities and as such, different meditation approaches suit some more than others. Thankfully there are many varieties of meditation. Some varieties have sub-varieties.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Mindfulness meditation&lt;/b&gt; is one of these versatile practices. Perhaps it’s because its essence-awareness of the present moment-is so versatile. Mindfulness in our daily life can be practiced by slowing down and attending to our surroundings. What are our 5 senses telling us? We can use mindfulness in the middle of a hectic day, such as paying attention to our breathing when stopped at a traffic light. We can also use other everyday events as triggers for mindfulness. Buckling your seatbelt? Make this a reminder to return to the present. Really think about what you’re doing and the details of the experience.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The more traditional may benefit from a more formal mindfulness practice. You may sit in the identical form as in traditional Buddhist meditation- on a chair or kneeling. However, you may also sit with your legs crossed. Your eyes are closed and your posture is both straight and relaxed while your head remains upright. Focus on your breath and allow mental chatter to float by without regard. Thoughts, emotions and sensations will come, but don’t be influenced by them. Keep focused on your breath. If you are getting involved with your thoughts don’t worry-your efforts aren’t destroyed. The key thing is to bring your attention back to breathing and continue. This can go on for 5 minutes to 5 hours. It’s up to you.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;Transcendental Meditation&lt;/b&gt; is another popular form of meditation. Generally, this type is practiced twice daily for a period of 15-20 minutes. Again, this technique involves sitting comfortably. Yet in contrast to basic Buddhist the eyes stay closed. Each student is given a mantra and is instructed to induce relaxation through use of this mantra. Since many of either can’t or won’t go to a formal TM class, a no-fail mantra I recommend is the classic OM. In The Heart of Yoga, T.K.V Desikachar writes that repetition of "OM" enables us to maintain mental and emotional calmness, overcome obstacles and enable understanding. It is the shortest of the mantras, and is said to be suggestive of God. If you’re uncomfortable with the religious aspects of OM I suggest a word that has positive meaning for you, such as love, calm or peace. Still pray : the time after time pray use for basic of the new meditator.&lt;br /&gt;2. It's always think that Bhud when breathe in / Tho when breathe out.&lt;br /&gt;3. Delight : crawl , tear , body remove, feel like afloat&lt;br /&gt;4. Glow with happiness&lt;br /&gt;5. Assemble mind and not muddle&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you're practice follow the process until you have 5 indication complete. Then ,You're getting the Chaan Level 1.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For Chaan Level 2 : You have just the 3 4 and 5 indication only.&lt;br /&gt;For Chaan Level 3 : You have just the 4 and 5 indication only.&lt;br /&gt;For Chaan Level 4 : You have just the 5 indication only.&lt;br /&gt;In Level 4 , everybody would be often stick in the Level 3 , we feel pleasantly with the happiness or the assemble mind. When we wouldn't progress in the practice , can't move on to the next level.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Level 1 to Level 3 , It's call Sa-ma-tha-Gam-ma-than ,it's mean that calm in mind,speech and body. We have to use the wisdom mind to consider below.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- the suffering : Example :: You get to know that when you sit down to practice for longtime, you feel stiff.&lt;br /&gt;- the impermanent  :  Example ::  You get to know that you can't sit down forever , you should change to walk , stand or lie on. Everything can be change.&lt;br /&gt;- the soulless : Example :: You have to understand that your body isn't of you, it's can ill or die and rot in finally. Everybody can't live forever. When you know the rule of nature that When you die you can't bring all everything to go with you , then , why do you acquisitive? why do you angry? why do you addict? The six A-pin-ya are&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;The magic for show to another for make them to faith in Bhuddism (only,nothing else)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Thip-pa-ya-sote : The magic eyes and ears can see and hear more than normal.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Ju-too-pa-ta-yaan : The super wisdom mind for know that what have man or animal ever born in the privious life ? and the future life when they died more than ever.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Je-To-Pa-ri-ya-yaan : The super wisdom mind can know about another mind.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Pup-pe-ni-wa-sa-nus-sa-ti-yaan : The super wisdom mind for know about the previous life much more.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;A-sa-wak-ka-ya-yaan : The super wisdom mind for deplete and get rid off the passion ,desires. The sitting posture, which has been found to be the most conducive for meditation, is the half-lotus position. Sit upright with your back and spine straight -- cross-legged with your right leg over the left one. You can sit on a cushion or pillow to make your position more comfortable. Nothing should impede your breathing or circulation. Your hands should rest palms-up on your lap, and the tip of your right index finger should touch your left thumb. Feel as if you are one with the ground on which you sit. Feel that you could sit happily for as long as you like. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.meditationthai.com/IMAGES/base7.gif" style="float: left; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" height="324" width="301" /&gt;2. Softly close your eyes as if you were falling asleep. Relax every part of your body, beginning the muscles of your face, then relax your face, neck shoulders, arms, chest, trunk and legs. Make sure there are no signs of tension on your forehead or across your shoulders. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. Close your eyes and stop thinking about the things of the world. Feel as if you are sitting alone -- around you is nothing and no-one. Create a feeling of happiness and spaciousness in your mind. Before starting, it is necessary to acquaint yourself with the various resting points or bases of the mind inside the body. The first base is at the rim of the nostril, on the right side for men and on the left side for women.  The second base is at the bridge of the nose at the corner of the eye -- on the right side for men and on the left side for women.     * The third base is at the centre of the head.    * The fourth is at the roof of the mouth.    * The fifth is at the centre of the throat above the Adamís apple.    * The sixth base is at a point in the centre of the body at the meeting point of an imaginary line between the navel through the back and the line between the two sides.    * The seventh base of the mind is two fingersí breadths above the sixth base.      This base is the most important point in the body. It is the very center of the body and the point where the mind can come to a standstill. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. Feel that your body is empty space, without organs, muscles or tissues. Gently and contentedly rest you attention at a point near to the seventh base of the mind -- at the centre of the body. Whatever experience arises in the mind, simply observe without attempting to interfere. In this way your mind will become gradually purer and inner experience will unfold. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. If you find that you cannot dissuade the mind from wandering, then your mind needs an inner object as a focus for attention. Gently imagine that a bright, clear, crystal ball, the size of the tip of your little finger, is located inside at the center of the body. Maybe you'll find you can imagine nothing, but later you'll be able to see a crystal ball of increasing clarity. Allow your mind to come to rest at the very center of the crystal ball. Use the subtlest of effort and youíll find that the crystal ball becomes brighter and clearer. If you see too much effort you will find that it gives you a headache. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. If you find that your mind still wanders from the crystal ball, you can bring the mind back to a standstill by repeating the mantra, 'Samma-araham' silently, as if the sound of the mantra is coming from the centre of the crystal ball. Repeat the mantra over and over again without counting. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.meditationthai.com/images/base7-1.gif" style="float: left; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" height="312" width="290" /&gt;7. Don't entertain thoughts in your mind. Don't analyze whatís going on in the meditation. Allow the mind to come to the standstill -- thatís all you need to do. If you find that you can imagine nothing, then repeat the mantra, 'Samma-araham' silently and continuously in the mind. If you find that you're not sure about the location of the centre of the body, anywhere in the area of the stomach will do. Persevere because today's day-dream is tomorrow's still mind, today's darkness is tomorrow's inner brightness, today's perseverance is tomorrow's fulfillment. Don't be disappointed if you find your mind wandering. It is only natural for beginners. Make effort continuously, keep your mind bright, clear and pure, and in the end, you will achieve your goal. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;8. Keep repeating the mantra and eventually the sound of the words will die away. At that point a new bright, clear, crystal ball will arise in the mind of its own accord. The crystal ball will sparkle like a diamond.  This stage is called pathama magga (primary path). At this stage the shining crystal ball is connected firmly to the mind, and is seated at the centre of the body. You will experience happiness, With continuous observation at the center of this crystal ball, it will give way to a succession of increasingly purer bodily sheaths until it reaches the ultimate one called 'Dhammakaya', the highest level of attainment of supreme happiness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;This is meditation Technique from Dhammakaya Temple. It's so difficult for me to practice. If you feel sleepy then you should stop. Stand up and use this method.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Walk by lift your right foot , slowly forward , and lift your left foot , slowly forward.  Your mind have to concentrate to your feet all the time, you are getting feel when your foot is touching on the ground. Your eyes should aim to the ground forward but should not more than 3 steps. Don't care for anything except your feet only. For this lesson , you don't count your breathe but you can count your step. After that , you are back to sit down and start to meditation practice again.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For the walk meditation , when you have more skill , you can walk by normal speed like a ordinary people but for the first , you should slowly walk. In Buddhism , you can't wash it out, but you can allay it by used the Buddhism meditation and you don't do the new wrong anymore by adhere in these rules.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In Buddhism believe  all those thing that we done , would be back to impact to our life in the future absolutely.  Like a physic rules that "Action = Reaction". When it 's would be effect back to you that upon the time of your life , if it 's not effect to you in this life its would happen to you in the future life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Therefor , why Buddhism believe in the previous life or future life.  Nevertheless you die , the sin and the virtue would be stick to your spiritual like a Hard disk in Computer. When you have a new born , you have just change your body case only but used the same Hard disk. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When you was born , The memory of your previous life about the sin or the virtue would be hide and bury in deep of your memory.  The Buddhism meditation is the only way that you can open this part of memory.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why we have to open it up , If you would have to wash your guilty in the past to forgive , you have to do it by yourself , to consider your guilty by find the reason and cause of its guilty and promise to yourself that it 's not happen again. Don't care about your breath that its slow or fast , soft or hard. Let it free, you have just to observe it only and you have just to know that it 's get in and out only.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Next Step,to change your focus from your nostril to the part of your figure , such as begin at your left hand, you know that how do the action of your hand at the present time and how do you feel about it. You have to focus on it until your feel just disappear. And then , you change your focus to your arm and just do it same.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;You have to focus to your body figure integral until it 's disappear.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;For during of time when you focus to your figure , if your mind is woolgathering then you have to stop to focus on your figure immediately and change your focus back to your nostril and start to count your breathe again. If your mind is even calm then you back to focus to your figure again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;If you so tire then you would stop to practice. Don't force your self because its not useful to your practice.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;This is practice called &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;"Ga-ya-nu-sa-ti"&lt;/span&gt;. When you breathe in ,you get feel like the air through  your nostril , don't care about its slow or fast , you have just feel that the air touch your nostril to inside only.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2. Also ,when you breathe out, you can feel like the air through your nostril.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;3. You don't try to force your breath its necessary , you have just observe it only.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;4. When you breathe IN and Out , you count this "1".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;5. You get start it 1 - 2 -  3 - 4 - 5 , this is the first circle. Then you back to start it again and count 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;6. In fact, other positions like sitting on one's knees or on a bench are good as well. If all of these are too difficult, you can also use a chair, but remember to sit only on the front half of the seat, not leaning against the back rest to avoid a bent back, and keep the feet flat on the floor. Keeping the knees warm may help to avoid numbness of the legs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;try belly-breathing; not breathing with the chest, but from the navel.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;always remember that the posture should enhance meditation, not be an obstacle! The only way , you can wash you mind by Buddhism meditation , because it 's can get into the subconscious to clean your mind.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:100%;"&gt;Everybody are not necessary to be faithful in Buddhism , you can practice and train your mind by Buddhism's tool.
